All those EEEs

Someone who knows about these things has gently suggested that I change the never-ending emilyevanseerdmans.blogspot.com url to something more snappy. As you are my guests, I thought I should first ask if you have any preferences.

You can already access this page by just typing in emilyevanseerdmans.com, but what do you think of these:

the-eee-blog.com

fromthedeskofeee.com

e-e-e-blog.com

allabouteee.com (joke!)

any other ideas?

Forgive me for boring you with this bit of housekeeping, but since you are the ones who type it in, who better to ask?

I feel as long as people can find you. Art by Karena works well for me although I definitely need a new header!

I love it just the way it is, you are Emily Evans Eerdmans. The others names just do not seem to fit you.
That is my 2 cents.

I like the never ending EEE you have now. But in the name of shorter and snappier: EEE.com. In the typer's mind, still saying Emily Evans Eerdmans. Which is what you want: name recognition.

But then this Oklahoma girl has a vanity tag on her car with Yippee, taken from the end of the song Oklahoma!. One of my former co workers, a phd psychologist, asked me why I would want Y-i-pee-a on my car. Perhaps I am not your best advisor!

Thank you Susan and Karena for your thoughts. That double e of eerdmans I think is the killer for some people - although I know some people type in evelyn evans eerdmans....

Home, I was hoping you would weigh in. alas - eee is taken and e-e-e is over $5000 to buy - although I could go the .net route instead of .com, but - call me a snob - .net seems like a downgrade.

(btw, my favorite OK song is The Surrey with the fringe on top")

I made you one of my "favorites" so you are just a click away.
for what its worth- "Im just a girl who cant say no" is - naturally - my favorite OK song

OK now! How about E!E!E! if e-e-e- costs $5000!!!! to buy when you can to Ebay and have way more fun. The all caps + ! would be easier to type than lc e! Whatever you chose, please don't do from the desk of... Reminds of oh so many bad CEO reports and I have always had a fear that the desk was actually talking. Kinda scary.

Just my opinion, but I'd avoid dashes in the name. They can be a bit of a pain to type. I like "fromthedeskofeee". Or, how about "theeruditeee"!!

Home, the exclamation points make me think of dames like Auntie Mame, Miss Prescott, and such whose every word was a declaration - love it! Or a Bob Fosse musical. the only thing is that holding the shift button down may be a big drag (as the caps lock doesn't change the 1 to a !) Maybe I should just go with jazzhands.com ?

Let's be honest here, Emily: on the easy-to-type scale, emilyevanseerdmans.blogspot.com is a bear, with my two fingers flying back & forth from one side of the keyboard to the other, but even on a crass, RoI basis, the extra 4 seconds it takes to type out your full name is well worth the additional effort. Besides, as soon as I type the first two letters, Internet Explorer is already asking me if I'm looking for your blog, so I mean how hard can it really be?

Even if you had an extra 5K just lying around--and I just saw, by reading the follow-up entries to your post about Francis Elkins' iconic loop chairs, that for that paltry amount, any of us might have gone home with a set of fully documented Elkins curved-seat originals, rather than the some of the heavy, slab-seated knockoffs that are on the market these days--spending that on a generic name like EEE would be a mistake. Mario Buatta doesn't have a website, but if he did, it can bet it wouldn't be MB-anything or princeofchintz.com or anything else cutesy. Too many EEs, too much clever wordplay and you could veer into Etsy territory. Nobody wants that.

Speaking of cutesy, though, one day I was home sick & bored & I decided--I was on Nyquil, which should explain everything--to try making a potato print. I had been looking at some art deco monograms for some buttons I was going to have made, and I had been reading your blog--and, most important, I had a potato--and before you know it, I had made a circular monogram of your initials and carved it into the cut surface surface of a potato, which you (or anybody else whose initials happened to be EE) could stamp in red tempera paint all over white tissue paper, for like, personalized giftwrap or wallpaper or something. Like I said, I was on Nyquil. Anyway, I was going to do that, then take a photo of the finished product & send it to you, but then I had some more Nyquil & went back to bed and by the time I was healthy again a few days later, the potato had gone way off in the other direction and was no longer in usable condition. I do still have the design, though. I guess none of this really has much to do with anything except, of course, your initials.

As far as changing the name of your blog goes, though, I say leave well enough alone. Remember what happened when House & Garden became HG? Besides, if people can't spell your name right, they're probably not going to get your blog anyway.

Magnaverde, I certainly didn't expect such a dry post to inspire one of your long musings. O, how you make me laugh - princeofchintz.com - that is the best.

Cutesy is bad. And the reduction and simplification of everything into soundbites is to be lamented. I need to think about this.

Your potato story reminds me of when I was 6 or 7 and was enrolled in a weekend art class. One of our projects was potato printing. And now I digress - these art classes were particularly memorable because they were adjacent to McDonald's and we always stopped there for lunch when class got out. McDonald's was an enormous treat - especially for a child who was being raised macrobiotically - and always envied other kids' wonderbread and Jif sandwiches while I had unwieldy home-made bread and organic oily peanut butter. ANYWAY, after a few weeks, I realized that McD kept putting onions on my burgers without my asking. Now onions were one of the things I had chosen to venomously dislike, but somehow I didn't seem to mind them on the McD burger. So the next weekend when I ordered - not realizing that McD had a standardized topping policy - I authoritatively specified onions to the mystified registrar. It was only years later that I realized that one was going to get onions at McD whether one wanted them or not....and pickles for that matter....

Am in full agreement with Magnaverde about the wisdom of leaving well alone. Besides which, it's no great bother to find a blog name that is bookmarked.
Now, about those onions and those potatoes...could
there have been a more delightful digression?

Magnaverde is completely right. I have to add that your full name has presence, while eee in any form reminds me of the the three little pigs nursery rhyme, an unfortunate association. We can all abbreviate in conversation, but the truth is, your in my book marks, and you were from the first time I bounced into the site from someone's link, so I never have to type it anyway.

Me too, i'm in agreement with Magnaverde. plus, we've become so lazy -- you want people to know how to properly spell your name. it doesn't take much effort to find you on the internet. if we don't have you listed on our own blogrolls or bookmarked in our 'favorites' browser list, then it is easy to google and find your blog. it is your name and you've worked hard under it. it's a good name! my fear, is too much EEE and it might be confused with rap star abbreviating type stuff. my vote is to leave it be, but play with the EEE initials for some fantastic logo... stamped by raw idaho potato and all.

Up way too late! Came from Hutton's book-signing in LA! then to Dawnridge for a magical party!

Who has to type in anyway?

Maybe I am lost in space! bookmarked from day one. no typing in!

I say keep you moniker!

I love it!

(I would like not to have to be tested everytime by that spelling nonsense!) anything we an do about that?

I am with you who would have thought the EEE waffling would have produced such wonderful diversions. When Magnaverde speaks (writes, really, but I hear him in my head), I just want it to go on forever. Haven't seen his comments about for awhile and wondered if he were not well. Magnaverde: always keep potatoes on hand when you have to reach for the Nyquil. And do live through it so you can tell us what you did with them. So glad you have recovered.
